Segundo estudo do urologista Jorge Hallak, coordenador da Unidade de Toxicologia Reprodutiva e de Andrologia do Hospital das Clinicas da FMUSP, ligada à Secretaria de Estado da Saúde, a poluição é uma das causas modernas de infertilidade masculina. O levantamento foi feito com 748 trabalhadores que inalaram o ar de grandes vias públicas, como motoristas de ônibus e táxi, e o resultado foi surpreendente: “Aqueles que respiram muita poluição têm uma maior concentração de radicais livres no sangue, o que causa um esperma de qualidade inferior até mesmo ao de homens inférteis”, relata o especialista. Os números mostram que dos 748 pesquisados, 500 apresentaram algum tipo de alteração na fertilidade.
A explicação está no combustível que os automóveis brasileiros usam. “Existe uma grande quantidade de metais pesados na gasolina nacional, o que afeta diretamente o organismo”, ressalta o urologista. Segundo Hallak, a solução em curto prazo é paliativa: “uso de máscaras com filtros já evitaria boa parte do problema”, garante.
Hoje, 15% da população masculina mundial é infértil, taxa maior que a infertilidade feminina. Além da poluição outros fatores podem causar a deficiência, entre eles o estresse, tabagismo, obesidade, sedentarismo e uso de anabolizantes.
A boa noticia é que dois terços dos casos de infertilidade masculina podem ser revertidos se forem bem diagnosticados e tratados. “Os homens têm de perder a cultura machista que se instalou no país e frequentar o urologista assim como as mulheres procuram seus ginecologistas”, aconselha o médico, que ainda completa: “os tratamentos são simples e rápidos, mas é preciso que os hábitos ruins fiquem no passado”, finaliza.
